Mission, Calgary Alberta

The Mission district in Calgary was originally a Catholic mission in 1875. In 1907 the village was annexed by Calgary and has been a thriving hip metro hub ever since.

Mission is only a 20-minute walk from the downtown core and less than 5-minutes to the popular and ever-busy 17th Avenue. The Stampede Grounds and the Saddledome are right around the corner, as well as the BMO Centre that is currently in the works for fabulous new renovations.

There are countless breweries located in the area, including Mill Street, Trolley 5, Great Western Brewing Company, and Last Best Brewing and Distilling.

The Repsol Sport Centre is a 5 minute walk away and has everything from a weightlifting area to basketball and even an olympic swimming pool. If you prefer the outdoors there are numerous trails around the elbow river and bow river, as well as beautiful parks such as the Stanley park and River park.

Mission wasn’t always a trendy area for shopping and dining out. Originally a Francophone settlement, Mission was one of the earliest non-Native settlements in the Calgary area and the earliest Roman Catholic centre in southern Alberta.

Once a scattered array of war-era houses, Mission homes are now central to a wonderful pedestrian stroll and the 4th Street corridor has been transformed by an influx of trendy shops and fun-filled restaurants and nightlife.

Nearby Lindsay Park along the Elbow River is a delightful location to kick back and enjoy the summer sun and sounds. Public play areas, pathways, interpretive information boards, decks overlooking the river, benches to relax, and expansive grassed and treed areas offer a variety of ways to enjoy this outdoor space.
